A TERRACE IN THE

HEART OF LANGHE

Great wines come from exceptional grapes

VINEYARDS
We are at the heart of Langhe’s region (a UNESCO World Heritage site), on top of a south facing hill (south slopes are locally known as Sorí), in the village of Diano D’Alba, one of the eleven villages of Barolo.

The vineyards offer a spectacular view encompassing the hills which separate the Barolo area from the region of Alta Langa, which is quickly developing a reputation for exceptional sparkling wines.

Our vineyards are on average 30 years old, with the oldest ones (which produce our Diano D’Alba DOCG) being over 60 years old. The site itself has been a vineyard since the second half of the XIX century, focusing on traditional grapes (Dolcetto and Nebbiolo)

The vineyards are located at a height of 400m a.s.l. and the terroir is characterised by white and calcareous sandstone with alkaline ph, an ideal combination for our vines.

Family Environment Excellence

OUR STORY
.jpg)

Alterris was born from the Martini family passions for wine, the Langhe region, and the excellence of Made in Italy. The company's founders, two engineer with a long international career, supported by the ideas and enthusiasm of their son, decided to invest in a new venture that could bring together our passion for nature and Made in Italy excellence.

The location chosen, with a spectacular view of the hills and countryside of Langhe, aims to make the winery the ideal location to transmit our passions to our customers. Our new underground winery minimises soild consumption and the impact on the landscape, whole allowing us to maintain ideal conditions for wine aging with minimal energy consumption.

The wine tasting area, opens with a spectacular view of the vineyards and the surrounding landscape, allowing visitors to immerse themselves in the local experience. The property includes 5 hectares of mixed and deciduous forest, enriching us with their biodiversity of flowers, plants, and animals.
WINERY
The new winery, atop a hill in Diano d'Alba, is surrounded by our vineyards and aims to be the perfect meeting place to share our passion with customers.

The winery has been carved into the hill to ensure ideal aging conditions, maintaining a cool and humid environment all year round.

Thanks to the underground solution, there's no need for air conditioning systems for cooling, thus minimizing our environmental impact.

The roof of the winery is equipped with solar panels, contributing to energy self-sufficiency and sustainability.

Respect for the environment
Sustainable innovation
We use light bottles (gr.450), which are 30% lighter than traditional ones and are made of recycled glass.
We use innovative corks made of sugar cane, which offer great performances while being carbon neutral and recyclable.
We use FSC (Forest Stewardship Council) certified paper products.
Each bottle is fully traceable to its vineyard through its lot number.

SUSTAINABILITY

METHOD
Our vineyards are planted according to the Guyot training system, with a density of around 5,000 vines/hectare, yielding between 500g and 1 kg of grapes per vine (depending on grape variety)

All pruning and defoliation are done manually to guarantee better quality control. Grape thinning (the process of removing immature grapes from each plant) takes place in July and August and, while negatively impacting volumes, helps us ensure the exceptional quality of our wines.

Vinification follows the traditional process, using only selected yeasts to ensure consistent results and limited use of pressing to guarantee the quality of our wines. Wine is then aged for long periods (between 12 and 26 months) ether in Steel tanks or Barriques (French oak), depending on the wine type.
